BACOLOD CITY – A person under police custody (PUPC) died from a stroke at the custodial facility of the Himamaylan City Police Station in Negros Occidental on Sunday, July 16.
Police Lt. Col. Reynante Jomocan, Himamaylan police chief, identified the victim as Arthur James Vargas, 37, of Barangay 1 here.
Jomocan said that Vargas was seen struggling by another PUPC around 2:10 a.m., prompting the PUPCÂ to seek assistance from the jailer.
He said that Vargas suffered a seizure before he was brought to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Based on medical findings, Vargas suffered a stroke that caused his death, according to Jomocan.
Jomocan said the victim had a hypertension and also previously suffered a mild stroke.
He said the victim was arrested for a drug offense and was jailed for about two weeks.
