Bacolod-based Tchoukball team off to Singapore for Southeast Asian tournament


BACOLOD CITY – Tchoukball athletes from this city will represent the country in the Southeast Asia Tchoukball Championship 2023 in Singapore from July 17 to 18.

The Bacolod-based Tchoukball Philippine Team met Mayor Alfredo “Albee” Benitez before they flew to Singapore.

The team initially qualified for the World Tchoukball Championships in Prague, Czech Republic, but due to lack of funds, the team decided to back out and instead opted to participate in the Singapore tournament.

Newly elected Tchoukball Association of the Philippines (TAP) president and head coach John Jamelo said the team is filled with anticipation and determination as players have undergone rigorous training and preparation for this prestigious championship.

They are aiming to make their mark and secure a spot in the World Tchoukball Tournament.

Bacolod City will hold the 2nd Masskara Tchoukball Tournament from Oct. 11 to 13.

Introduced in the 1960s by Swiss biologist Dr. Hermann Brandt, tchoukball is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport that combines the elements of passing, shooting and catching.

A match usually played on an indoor court, involves two teams with seven players each.

It is renowned for promoting fair play, respect and teamwork among its participants. (with a report from PNA)
