* The helocast training is an airborne technique used by small unit or special operations forces to insert troops into a military area of operation. Captain Mary Ann Domacena, PMC public affairs officer, said the helocast training was part of the ongoing Marine Aviation Support Activity 2023 (MASA 23) between the two forces. Participants from the PMC’s Marine Force Reconnaissance Group and their USMC counterparts conducted simultaneous close air support, interrogation, and interdiction operations during the drill. “The training aimed to increase knowledge of bilateral techniques, tactics, and procedures, while improving the lethality of the combined operating troops in the conduct of said operations,” Domacena said.Cope Thunder
Meanwhile, Filipino and American pilots hold subject matter expert exchanges (SMEEs) on air battle and command and control (C2) battle management, and integrated air and missile defense (IAMD) in connection with the second iteration of Cope Thunder Philippines 2023-2 air exercise between the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and United States Air Force (USAF). Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo, PAF spokesperson, said that personnel from the 580th Aircraft Control and Warning Wing (Sensor Warriors) and the US Air Force finished a three-day SMEE on air battle and command and control (C2) battle management at Wallace Air Station in San Fernando, Pampanga last July 12. “USAF personnel were able to share the latest information, best practices, and other essential knowledge to the Air Battle Managers and C2 Battle Manager Operators of the Sensor Warriors through interactive discussions and open forum,” Castillo said on Saturday, July 15. “This activity led to the exchange of ideas and information between the PAF and USAF on air battle management, which will be useful in future bilateral training and joint operations,” he added. Personnel of the 960th Air and Missile Defense Group (960th AMDG) and USAF Pacific Integrated Air and Missile Defense Center also concluded in a three-day SMEE on IAMD at Basa Air Base in Floridablanca, Pampanga on July 12. The SMEE consisted of presentations by experts from both air forces on air domain awareness, mission planning considerations, rules of engagement, ID matrix, and passive defenses which provided insights into the challenges and advancements in the field of IAMD. The participants also underwent a criticality vulnerability and threat (CVT) workshop which “allowed participants from both teams to actively engage in hands-on exercises, simulations, and scenario-based discussions.” “The collaborative environment fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas and facilitated a deeper understanding on the intricacies of conducting Air and Missile Defense operations effectively,” Castillo said.
