New Honda City, Brio, Toyota Wigo, and Chevrolet Trax

It’s a great weekend to go car shopping as four new models have just been launched. These range from sedans, hatchbacks, to even a crossover SUV. Reflecting the vibrant outlook for the car industry this year, they come in a range of bright colors, will almost all of them available in either a bright red or yellow. Best of all, they’re on display at a mall near you. So if your family plans on doing some shopping, drop by these malls to get a look at these cars too.

The new City

First on our list is the new Honda City. It gets even more sporty and stylish with newly-crafted RS Design accessories for a sleeker, wider look and a stronger presence on the road.

Inside it an instrument cluster with a new 4.2-inch full color TFT meter that provides various dirving information. There’s also an eight-inch Advanced Touchscreen Display Audio (RS, V, and S) that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now made wireless for RS, V, and S.

This City now comes with the Honda SENSING safety suite with features like Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System with Lane Departure Warning (RDM with LDW), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). Essentially this system assists the driver keeping the car in lane and a set distance from the car ahead.

Powering it is a 1.5L DOHC i-VTEC engine with CVT producing a maximum output of 121-PS and 145-Nm of torque. This combo helps the City achieve fuel economy ratings of 22.2 kilometers per liter.

The Honda City comes in four variants: the City E with SENSING (P973,000); the City S with SENSING (P998,000), the City V with SENSING (P1,073,000); and the City RS with SENSING (P1,128,000).

The new Brio

Like the City, the new Brio also comes in RS trim, with sporty upgrades both inside and out. There’s even a special Black Top edition with a black roof.

Inside, the Brio offers black fabric seats with red accents in the RS variants. Passengers will enjoy the premium in-car entertainment, equipped with a seven-inch Capacitive Touchscreen Audio across all variants. RS and V variants get Apple CarPlay, Android Auto,

Powering the Brio is a 1.2-liter four-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine that produces a maximum of 90-Ps at 6,000 rpm and 119N-m of torque at
4,800 rpm. It’s paired to a choice of Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) or five-speed manual.

The new Brio will be available in four variants: starting with the 1.2 S MT at P735,000; 1.2 V CVT at P827,000; 1.2 RS CVT at P253,000, and 1.2 RS CVT Black Top at P863,000.

Toyota Wigo

The highly-anticipated all-new Wigo is finally out and it sports a more aggressive and sporty look about it. It has also grown, now bigger in height, width and length over the previous generation.

Inside, it offers fabric seats with adjustable headrests along with six-way manually adjustment for the driver and four-way adjustable for the front passenger (G variant). The G and E variants get the eight-inch touchscreen entertainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto.

It’s powered by a three-cylinder 1.0-liter 12-valve DOHC with VVT gasoline engine which puts out 67-Ps at 6000 rpm with max torque of 89-Nm at 4400 rpm mated to a new CVT or a 5-speed manual.

The Wigo also has a hefty list of safety features like driver and front passenger SRS airbags, three-point seatbelts for all five occupants, ISOFIX Tethers, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill-start Assist Control (HAC). The G variant even has a DVR “dashcam” located in front of the rear view mirror and a reverse sonar and back up camera.

The Wigo is priced from P609,000.00for the Wigo J; P684,000.00 for the Wigo E CVT; and P729,000.00 for the Wigo G CVT. The all-new Wigo is on display at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City, where all the variants and available colors will be on display until Sunday July 16.

Chevrolet Trax

The new Trax grows quite a bit from its predecessor. In fact, it’s even moved up a class by positioning itself against the Honda HR-V and Subaru XV thanks to its larger size and extensive suite of active and passive safety features.

The Trax’s new look is composed of high-eye DRLs and LED headlights, massive 17 or 18-inch wheels, and striped or two-tone paint options.

Inside, the Trax boasts of a sporty seating position and modern dashboard. The driver gets an eight-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Propelling the Trax is a 1.2-liter E-Turbo Prime engine with direct injection and variable valve timing. Despite its small size, it manages an impressive 137 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 220-Nm at 2,500 rpm. It’s connected to a six-speed automatic.

The most impressive addition is its suite of features that are part of Chevrolet’s Advanced Driver Assistance system. It uses a camera in front to provide standard forward collision alert, following distance indicator, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, enhanced front pedestrian detection, and vehicle forward movement detection among others.

The Trax comes in three variants: Trax 1.2 LT, P1,793,888; Trax 1.2 Redline, P1,866,888; and Trax 1.2 RS, P1,948,888. The new Trax Redline and RS are on display until July 16, 2023 (Sunday) at R1 Level, South Wing (in front of Zara), Power Plant Mall, Makati City.
