Police Col. Julius C. Suriben, Ilocos Norte police chief, said the provision of assistance and services to residents in the province in depressed communities through the Manong PD program is part of their ongoing celebration of the 28th Police Community Relations (PCR) Month.

Suriben said it is also part of their support to the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

“Sitio Rosas in Barangay Payac in Bangui, Ilocos Norte has been classified as Geographically Isolated and Disadvantage Areas (GIDAS) and an Indigenous People’s (IP) community that could only be reached by traversing the dirt and rolling roads that cross the mountainous areas of the southeastern side of the town,” said Suriben.

Seventy family heads, 16 senior citizens, and 21 children benefited from the activity in which P400,000 worth of assistance comprised of fertilizers and assorted vegetable seeds, reading glasses, first aid kits, canes, and wheel chairs; bags, umbrellas, and other school supplies; assorted vitamins and medicines, and rice and food packs were distributed.

During the outreach program, a food technology specialist from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Bangui Institute of Technology conducted a demo on skinless “longganisa” (sausage)-making.
