K-pop idol-actress Yuri makes special memories with fans in Manila

Korean actress Yuri, also a member of K-pop group Girls' Generation, spent a memorable night with Filipino fans last July 9.  She held her “Yuri 2nd Fanmeeting Tour: Chapter 2 in Manila” at the New Frontier Theater. After opening the fan meeting with “Into You,” Yuri greeted the crowd with “Kamusta po? [How are you?]”  It was an interactive event as fans were able to communicate with Yuri and asked her questions by scanning a QR code to enter a chat room.  Yuri was impressed by the loud cheers from the fans at the start of the fan meeting.  “I was looking forward to this day when I meet you personally,” she said.  Yuri said the last time she visited the Philippines was seven years ago when she did a commercial shoot with her cousin. It was in May 2016 when Yuri and her cousin Vivian went to Boracay for a photoshoot for a leisure brand.  “The last time I was here in the Philippines was seven years ago for a commercial shoot with my cousin. I’m excited to finally be back,” she said.  Yuri added that she wants to visit Bohol for scuba diving, saying, “I heard it’s a beautiful place.” 

Fan meeting and career

  Besides being a K-pop idol, Yuri has branched out into acting and TV shows. She is seen in the Disney+ show “The Zone: Survival Mission” with Yoo Jae-suk and Lee Kwang-soo. She was part of the TV program “Invincible Youth” together with other K-pop idols.  Her acting credits include "The Sound of Your Heart: Reboot," "Bossam: Steal the Fate," "Good Job," "Dolphin" and "My Teenage Girl." She said she spent last summer with Girls’ Generation members but this year, she is spending it with fans through the tour.  About preparing for the fan meeting, Yuri said, “Of course I am hands-on on everything but how could I be tired when this much support is given to me.” 

Games and tasks

  Yuri played games and tasks during the fan meeting. One fun moment was during the “Tongue Twister” segment wherein she had to say Filipino tongue twisters.  Some of these were “Ang relo ni Leroy ay Rolex,” “Nagprito ng pitumpu't pitong puto ang pumipitong puting pato,” “Bababa ba? For the Decibel Games, Yuri tried to eat Filipino snacks without going over the readings of a decibel meter.  She also wore props for a photo time for the fans.  Yuri also danced to “Lil’ Touch,” “Dessert,” and “1, 2 Step,” and performed Girls’ Generation’s iconic song “Gee.”  “I am very touched and thank you for coming here and leaving me a special memory this July of 2023. It’s like you guys left one great chapter of my life. I dedicated my chapter 1, which for me is my youth and I spent that with you. And I hope with this chapter 2 and more chapters to come, I hope you guys can stay by my side,” she said.  She added, “I’m waiting for a lot of projects as an actress. Also, I hope to see you guys in variety shows.”  The “Yuri 2nd Fanmeeting Tour: Chapter 2 in Manila” was presented by CNCA.
