'Dodong' slightly intensifies; may reach its peak while over West PH Sea

In its latest bulletin issued at 8 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Dodong" has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour(kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. The tropical depression was spotted moving west southwestwards at 20 kph over the coastal waters of Laoag, Ilocos Norte.Â
Tropical Depression Dodong may reach its highest strength tonight, July 14, or Saturday morning, July 15, and may intensify to a severe tropical storm with 110 kph maximum sustained wind over the West Philippine Sea. Â
Tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 1 will remain hoisted in the western portion of Cagayan (Pamplona, Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Allacapan, Lasam, Santo Niño, Tuao, Rizal, Piat, Abulug, Ballesteros, Enrile, Solana, Amulung, Alcala), including the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Babuyan Is., Dalupiri Is., and Fuga Is.), Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.
PAGASA forecasted that for the next six hours, "Dodong" will move westward or west-southwestward before generally turning northwestward over the West Philippine Sea until it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow evening (July 15) or early Sunday morning (July 16). *(Sonny Daanoy)*
