BACOLOD CITY – Thirty-two couples got married in a “Kasalang Bayan” or mass wedding in Barangay Bulanon, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Thursday, July 13.
Mayor Narciso Javelosa administered the wedding which was held in time with the Talabahan Festival in Barangay Bulanon.
Wilfredo Requiron and Asuncion Mapa, who are now in their 70s, were married after almost 50 years of being in a relationship. They have six children and 24 grandchildren.
“We are very happy that we were finally married,” the couple said as they thanked Javelosa and the city government for the opportunity.
Twin sisters Elvie and Elnie Metoda also got married during the mass wedding.
Javelosa advised the couples to take care of their relationship. He hopes that this bond will make them stronger as a couple.
Vice Mayor Leo Rafael Cueva and Councilors Perfecto Marañon, Rodnel delos Reyes, Roldan Gamao, Felisa de la Cruz, Miller Serondo, and Ching Javellana served as the godparents of the couples.
The mass wedding is an ongoing program of the Local Civil Registry Office. These are held in every barangay in Sagay City year-round.
