In a Facebook post, Duterte credited them for the role they played in Davao City’s campaign against the rebel New People’s Army, the armed group of the Communist Party of the Philippines.
The 3rd Infantry Battalion was posted in Davao City from Nov. 2016 to Jan. 2022 to help with the insurgency problems there, especially in Paquibato District.
“Bilang co-chairperson ng Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict at dating alkalde ng Davao, nagpasalamat ako sa ating mga sundalo sa kanilang serbisyo sa bayan — at sa kanilang napakahalagang papel sa pagsugpo ng Davao City sa mga NPA (As co-chairperson of Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict and former mayor of Davao, I thank our soldiers for their service to the nation — and their important role in ending the NPA in Davao City),” she said in her post.
Davao City, her hometown, has been insurgency-free since 2022.
“Nagpapasalamat kami sa inyong hirap, pagod, puyat, luha, at iba pang sakripisyo upang magserbisyo sa bayan (We are thankful for your hard work, fatigue, sleeplessness, tears, and other sacrifices to serve the nation),” Duterte wrote, quoting her own message.
“Know that the Filipino people, particularly the areas that you’ve helped, appreciate your service to our country,” she added.
