'Dodong' makes landfall in Isabela; to remain a tropical depression before PAR exit

The fourth cyclone to form within the country's area of responsibility this year, Tropical Depression Dodong landed in Dinapigue, Isabela, at 3 a.m., the state weather bureau said on Friday, July 14.

In its latest issued bulletin at 5 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Dodong" has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour(kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

It was spotted moving west northwestward with a speed of 15 kph in the vicinity of San Mariano, Isabela.

PAGASA hoists Signal No. 1

PAGASA hoisted Signal No.1 in areas of Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union.

It also raised the same tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) in places under the northern portion of Pangasinan (San Nicolas, San Manuel, Sison, San Fabian, Pozorrubio, Bolinao, Bani, City of Alaminos, Sual, Labrador, Lingayen, Agno, Binmaley, Dagupan City, San Jacinto, Mangaldan, Anda), and the northern and central portions of Aurora (Maria Aurora, San Luis, Baler, Dipaculao, Dinalungan, Casiguran, and Dilasag).

'Dodong' remains a tropical depression

PAGASA forecasted that "Dodong" will remain in tropical depression status while it is in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

It also reported that after crossing the rugged landmass of North Luzon on July 14, Tropical Depression Dodong will continue to move northwest over the West Philippine Sea.

"Based on our latest track, Tropical Depression Dodong may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility tomorrow evening (July 15) or in the morning of Sunday (July 16)," Weather Specialist Benison Estareja stated in a mix of Filipino and English.

No gale warning

Estareja also mentioned that in terms of a gale warning, "we have no hoisted gale warning or sea travel suspensions." 

However, he clarified that "even no gale warning, if signal number one occurs, usually sea travels are suspended."(Sonny Daanoy)
