"Sana po pag matanda...pag mag-aaral ka po, 'wag ka mahiya. Bakit ako, hindi nahihiya (I hope that when you are older and you are a student, do not be embarrassed. I don’t get embarrassed),” she said, according to the Taguig City government.
Through the concerns of those who took her in, Rivera was able to leave a life of poverty and was able to continue her studies.
She encouraged other senior citizens who want to go to school again or finish any level not to be embarrassed.
Rivera thanked Mayor Lani Cayetano as the city government gave her shoes, uniform and socks.
