BACOLOD CITY – Police arrested two persons for allegedly using fake money to pay their purchases in a “sari-sari” (community convenience) store in Barangay Alijis here on Tuesday, July 11.

(Photo courtesy of Police Station 7) The suspects were identified as Ericson Garde, 44, and Deogracias Ilustracion, 39, residents of Baragay Taculing here. Police Capt. Andy Ofalia, head of Police Station 7, said the suspects sustained minor injuries after residents mobbed them after they were caught using fake money to pay cigarettes they purchased in a store. Police responded and pacified the commotion but they were surprised to recover contraband from the suspects. Ofalia said eight sachets of suspected shabu worth P34,000 were recovered from Garde while a .38 caliber revolver and three bullets were confiscated from Ilustracion. Also recovered from them were a digital weighing scale, a motorcycle, and the P2,000 fake money. Ofalia said they are conducting a background check on the suspects. He said that some storekeepers have equipment that can detect counterfeit money after they they were victimized by bogus bills recently.
