Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte said there is no reason for students to fear failure because the hope in them is “stronger” than any failure.

Duterte said this during her speech at the Ganao National High School Seremonya Iti Panagturpos 2023 8th Moving-Up ceremonies and 6th Graduation and Recognition rites in Nueva Vizcaya.
“Do not be afraid to fail. The light inside of you is stronger than your failure,” she stressed.
The official urged students that to nurture their own dreams like they are “cultivating a garden.”
“For a child, for you, a dream is like a garden that you cultivate as you grow up. You water this garden with hard work, with courage, with love, and deep sense of optimism and excitement over the first bloom,” she said.
Despite the difficulties that they may encounter, Duterte asked them never to lose sight of their dreams because their future depends on it.
“Grieve if you must. But never lose hope. And while you cling to hope, do not give up. Do not surrender. Cultivate another garden of dreams. You should, and you must. Why? Because it is your life that is at stake here,” she said.
Drawing from her own experience of wanting to be a physician but eventually found herself in politics, the Vice President stressed that learners should embrace the possibilities of redirections and detours, as well as the opportunities that come even from unfulfilled dreams.
“But there are times that even with hard work, even with determination, a dream slips through one’s fingers, causing disappointment and despair,” Duterte said.
“But as adults, we may start looking at the deeper reason behind the failure rather than spending our energy sulking in self-defeat,” she added.
She shared that her path has “unraveled a special purpose in life that comes with great responsibility.”
While she congratulated the graduates, she also recognized the hard work and sacrifices of parents, guardians, and the teachers.
“Today’s celebration is for you — our graduates. But it’s also for your parents, who deserve to be eternally honored, appreciated, and loved,” Duterte said.
“We also recognize the role of your teachers and the entire Ganao National High School community in the fulfillment of your future success,” she added.
