Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista reminisced about his career in the music industry for the past two decades.

In an interview with Aster Amoyo for her YouTube show "TicTALK with Aster Amoyo" on June 30, Christian traced his beginnings and accomplishments, from a TV gig to a national singing competition.

After being a grand finalist in the first season of "A Star in a Million" in 2004, Bautista realized his capabilities were not limited to singing.

"If it's not for me, it's not for me, so I will do my best and hope I can reach a certain level; if I don't, It's okay. Ano pa pwede kong gawin," Bautista said.

Love for music

Before his career blossomed, Christian shared that he knew he could sing after he joined a children's choir and let his singing potential grow over time.

As he marks his second decade in the industry this year, Bautista cited the ‘highlights’ of his profession as an opportunity for his career and life to thrive.

Bautista thanked the TV show where he started, Star in a Million, for making waves with his success in doing albums, having an international career in Indonesia, and doing musicals in the Philippines and abroad.

Even though Bautista did not win the title, he is grateful for the profession he has established over the years.

"Kahit hindi pinalad sa Star in a Million, may ibang plano pala ang Diyos," the singer said.

A year after his initial appearance on a TV singing contest, he was offered a recording deal, a song, and an album.

With his song "The Way You Look at Me," his first hit single, he serenaded the Philippines as well as overseas.

Southeast Asia’s musical fame

Aside from the Philippines, Christian also built his career in Indonesia.

With his debut album under Universal Records, titled Romance Revisited: The Love Songs of Jose Mari Chan, Bautista claimed that Jose Mari Chan was essential to establishing his name in Indonesia.

"That gave me so many music videos, and it gave me a brand new life also," Bautista added.

When Bautista is on tour in Indonesia, fans request Chan’s hit song "Beautiful Girl."

The singer regarded his Indonesian fans' support as a big benefit in helping his career grow.

Indeed, Christian's music won the hearts of the Indonesians, inspiring him to write a piece that was just made for Indonesia and exclusively released there. (Mondrein Mikolei Lizarte/OJT from University of Sto. Tomas)
