Carlos Alvarez eyes main roster spot, out to impress anew

Carlos "Limitless" Alvarez makes his ONE Championship return this Friday, July 14, to take on Iran’s Reza Saedi, and he has one goal in mind – to impress fans once again.

Alvarez takes on Saedi in a featherweight mixed martial arts bout at ONE Friday Fights 25 on July 14 from inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, and he knows that another head-turning performance could land him on one of the promotion’s global events.
“My main goal is to get on the big cards, which is why I believe I need to impress again at [ONE Friday Fights] for me to get that main-roster invite to ONE Championship,” he said.
The 24-year-old is generally happy with his debut in ONE. He burst onto the scene in April with an impressive second-round TKO of another Iranian in Reza Abasi.
In that fight, Alvarez showcased his entire arsenal, displaying the signature Team Lakay striking alongside his strong takedowns and smothering top control en route to a second-round TKO finish.
What makes him happy is how he kept Abasi guessing in that fight. He continuously mixed up his point of attack to get the win. However, he knows that there are still a lot of things to improve on.
“I’d give [my performance] an eight [out of 10]. When I rewatched my fight, I found some points for improvement. [I need to work] on my composure inside the ring, especially on the mental side of things. I’m still lacking in experience,” he said. “I want to keep my opponent on his toes so my attacks don’t become all that predictable.” Alvarez knows that keeping his fire burning will be critical, especially since he wants to compete on one of ONE’s global events. By impressing here, he could get that shot.
“My goal here is to win and finish the fight as early as round one and, of course, get the bonus,” he said.
“I’m also looking to get the exposure I need to better my career from this bout.”
