Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan announced during her State of the City Address (SOCA) on Tuesday, July 11, that the city has constructed four science laboratories for the city's public schools. The mayor said Manila is the only city in the National Capital Region (NCR) that has established world-class science laboratories. "Bukod-tanging tayo lamang sa NCR o sa buong bansa ang nakapagpagawa ng apat na world-class science labs (We are the only one in the NCR or in the entire country to have built four world-class science labs)," the mayor said. Lacuna-Pangan also said that the local government will construct more laboratories until each city’s district has its own high-tech science lab. "Bawat estudyante, dapat may oportunidad sa de-kalidad na edukasyon (Every student should have an opportunity for quality education)," she added. The mayor also announced the more labs will be built for the students of Manila Science High School, Albert High School, and Manila High School. She said the construction of two facilities will be finished soon. The facilities were built in line with Lacuna- Pangan’s principle of providing public school students with the same facilities that private school students enjoy. She is also planning to build a mobile library that will be brought to communities in the city. Meanwhile, Lacuna-Pangan also proudly announced that the Universidad de Manila (UdM), under the presidency of Felma Carlos-Tria, achieved a Level-1 accreditation from the Association of Local Colleges and Universities for 18 academic programs. UdM, as the mayor said, has been recognized as the top-performing criminology school in the NCR for the past several years.
