Potential LPA may intensify 'habagat', bring rains over parts of PH
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is monitoring a cloud cluster east of the country that may develop into a low pressure area (LPA) on Tuesday, July 11.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said the cloud cluster, which is inside the Philippine area of responsibility, may approach the country and bring cloudy skies, especially over the eastern parts of Luzon and Visayas in the coming days.
Badrina said the "habagat" will likely re-intensify in the next few days, and bring rains over the western parts of the country.
Luzon, on the other hand, will have a “generally hot weather,” except for isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, he added.
In the next 24 hours, the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will still be the dominant weather system that will bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over most of the country.
ITCZ is a convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres where rain-bearing clouds form.
PAGASA advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards.
