* Operatives of the Manila Police District (MPD) arrested on Monday, July 10, the man who fired his gun after a quarrel with his girlfriend in Ermita, Manila. MPD Ermita Police Station (PS-5) identified the suspect as Lyle Adams Fernandez, 32, a resident of Anolit, Pangasinan. MPD PS-5 said the suspect fired shots inside an office room at Lifework International Manpower Inc. CRS Building, 1535 Perdigon Street, Ermita, Manila on Monday morning. Police said the incident was reported to them at 10:23 a.m. Based on the initial investigation, the suspect and his girlfriend had a quarrel before the firing incident. According to the suspect's girlfriend, Fernandez confronted her and threatened to kill her if she would break up with him. The girlfriend then left and went to work at the Lifework International Manpower office, but the suspect followed her. Two co-workers of his girlfriend prevented him from entering the office room, but he managed to insert his gun through the door and fired inside the room. The authorities immediately responded but failed to catch the suspect. MPD conducted a follow-up operation at the Cubao Bus terminal in Quezon City. "Syempre taga-Pangasinan 'yun in-anticipate natin after niya gawin 'yung krimen maaari siyang umuwi sa Pangasinan kaya pinuntahan natin sa bus terminal sa Cubao, pero hindi ito nakita doon (Of course, he is from Pangasinan, we anticipated that after he committed the crime, he may go home to Pangasinan, so we went to the bus terminal in Cubao, but he was not found there)," Maj. Philipp Ines said. Another follow-up operation was conducted after the girlfriend received a message from the suspect, asking her to meet him on Mabini Street near the corner of Padre Faura Street in Ermita at 9 p.m. on the same day. The meet-up led to the arrest of the suspect. Recovered from him was a .38-caliber revolver loaded with five live ammunition and a cartridge case. The suspect faces charges for violations of Republic Act 10591 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) (Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition of Regulation Act), Article 155 (Alarms and Scandals and/or Indiscriminate Firing), Article 258, RPC (other forms of threats), Article 266 (Slight Physical Injury), and Republic Act 9262 (Violence Against Women and their Children). #
