Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan started the implementation of mandatory drug testing for its 8,000 city officials and employees on Monday, July 10.
The drug testing booth is located on the second floor of the Manila City Hall (MCH) near the session hall until July 28.
The mayor said the free drug testing operation strives to ensure that MCH and all its satellite offices are drug-free.
It is in accordance with the provision stated in Civil Service Commission M.C. No. 13 series of 2017 or the Mandatory Random Drug Test for Public Officials and Employees.
Lacuna-Pangan together with Vice Mayor Yul Servo led the first day of drug testing for other local government employees.
She said those who will test positive for illegal drug use will be referred for confirmatory testing. They will be required to undergo rehabilitation once confirmed.
The local chief executive noted that the city officials and workers must serve as role models by having a drug-free environment and staying away from vices.
