The Filipinas exploited the Maldivians' poor defense and inability to convert throughout the match which, at one point, resulted to a 27-0 run midway in the second quarter. As Ava Fajardo and Kimi Sayson led the girls to finish the half with a commanding 59-point advantage, it was Sophia Canindo's turn to light it up in the third frame while also frustrating their counterparts who only had three points to deliver from Kalsam Nimal. Canindo topped the offense for the Filipinas with her 21 points that went with four rebounds and six assists. Cristina Lapasaran and Nevaeh Smith had 16 points apiece while Fajardo had 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Mariyam Shirhan spearheaded Maldives with 11 points while Kalsam Nimal and Ana Simad added four points each. With the victory, Gilas topped Group A of the Division B tilt and secured its spot to the knockout stage with Jordan serving as its next foe on Thursday, July 13.
