Chery Tiggo relied on sister duo Eya and EJ Laure as it outhustled Akari, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 17-25, 15-7, in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City on Tuesday, July 11.
The Laure sisters sizzled with a combined 30 kills for the Crossovers, who finally nailed their first win in two matches. Eya spearheaded Chery Tiggo’s assault with 19 points that also included three blocks, while older sister EJ chipped in 15 points. While it was the Laure sisters who carried the fight throughout, it was Cess Robles who delivered in the pivotal fifth set by nailing crucial attacks that gave the Crossovers the much-needed victory. Chery Tiggo dictated the tempo in the fifth frame with a 7-2 start, before the Laure sisters joined forces with Robles in maintaining their pace en route to the win. Ponggay Gaston and Mylene Paat also shone for the Crossovers with 11 points apiece, even as Joyme Cagande made 17 excellent sets. Akari absorbed its second straight loss in Group A despite the efforts of CJ Soyud, who had 18 points, and Trisha Genesis and Faith Nisperos, who finished with similar 15 points.
