ILOILO CITY – MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) has refunded 20 new customers here, more than a month after it started reimbursing bill deposits.

“We implemented this program in accordance with the law. The bill deposit is not ours; it belongs to our consumers. We are fulfilling our responsibility and returning what is rightfully theirs,” said MORE Power President and CEO Roel Castro. The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) had earlier lauded MORE Power for implementing the Magna Carta for Residential Electricity Consumers which mandates power distribution utilities to refund deposits made by good-paying consumers for a period of three consecutive years. MORE Power took over from Panay Electric Co. (PECO) in February 2020 when it was given a congressional franchise as Iloilo City power distributor. Among those who received the bill refund was Violeta Tiangson, a resident of Barangay Rizal Pala-Pala Zone 1 in City Proper District. Tiangson said the refund she received from more can be used for savings for other household expenses. Keiffer Espinosa, a barangay councilor from East Timawa in Molo District, said this is a good incentive that encourages consumers to pay on time and avoid disconnection. Francis Cruz, special assistant to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas, said MORE Power refunding bill deposits is a good example for other utilities in being fair to consumers.
