Former PRRD top potential Senate bet for 2025 elections in Publicus Asia survey

Former VP Leni enters 'Magic 12'

Former President Rodrigo Duterte emerged as the leading potential candidate for the 2025 elections in the June 7-12, 2023 survey conducted by Publicus Asia. With 51 percent voter support, the former President ranked first among potential Senate candidates in the “Pahayag 2023 Second Quarter Survey” results, which were made public on Monday, July 10. Publicus Asia also found Dr. Willie Ong and ACT-CIS Party-List Rep. Erwin Tulfo tied at the second and third spots with a support base of 44 percent each. “Their consistent popularity demonstrates their strong appeal among the electorate,” Publicus Asia pointed out. In the fourth and fifth spots were incumbent Senators Christopher “Bong” Go and Imee Marcos, who garnered 39 percent support each. In the bottom half of the top 12 were former Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, with 36 percent each. Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, former Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, and Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro were tied at 35 percent and 31 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, former Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque received 25 percent of the voter preference. “[This] further emphasizes the diverse range of candidates vying for Senate seats,” Publicus Asia said.

 It also noted the emergence of former Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in the “magic 12,” receiving 28 and 25 percent of the voter support, respectively. Publicus Asia said the Pahayag 2023 survey is an independent and non-commissioned survey whose results provide valuable insights into the current political landscape and reflect the preferences of the electorate at this stage. It explained that its its 1,500 respondents were chosen at random from a market research panel of more than 200,000 Filipinos maintained by a US-based panel marketplace with a multinational presence of respondents. The respondents were dispersed across five geographical areas, namely National Capital Region, North Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Only registered Filipino voters were included in the sample to ensure that the results represent accurately the sentiments of the voting population.
