Dapitan successfully hosts 201 Speed Heroes drag race tilt

CEBU CITY – Proving once again that it is the top sports tourism destination in Zamboanga Peninsula, Dapitan City drew the top moto racers in Mindanao when it hosted the Dapitan 201 Speed Heroes National Moto Drag Race Tournament over the weekend.

Held over the weekend, July 8 to 9, the national competition attracted more than 100 riders, who competed in various categories. Apple Marie Agolong, Dapitan tourism officer, said holding the drag race competition is just one way of maintaining the city’s stature as the most preferred tourist destinations in Zamboanga Peninsula. “The city is bent on having this kind of an event, which is a national event, so that it can maintain the spot as the most-visited local government unit for a city in Zamboanga Peninsula,” said Agolong. Agolong said Dapitan, which was also named as this year’s most improved tourism office in Zamboanga Peninsula, partnered with MTW 2KAG Razing for the holding of the tournament. “We want to thank who all those who participated in this event and those who helped make this event a big success,” Agolong said. Davao City’s CKS Racing Team was crowned champion in the Raider Pure-Stock FI category followed by GIMAC Racing Team of Cagayan de Oro City and KCRT of Tagum City. CKS also topped the PCC category with MTW Racing Team of Dipolog City and Spring Hoiz Racing Team of Pagadian City first and second runners-up, respectively. The CKS riders pocketed two more titles when they also ruled the Raider FI and Raider CPC categories. MTW had a one-two finish in the CVT category, copping the championship and first runner-up honors. Boy Hapos Racing Team of Dipolog was second runner-up. Just like CKS, the MTW riders also went home with multiple titles after they dominated the 57 Trail Bike, Open Mix, and 25 G categories. Agolong said Dapitan is lining up more events, including the much-awaited Ironman 5150 that the city will be hosting on September. “We are already in the thick of preparations for the highly anticipated Ironman 5150,” said Agolong.
