Covid-19 positivity rate ‘low’ in Metro Manila; ‘upticks’ observed in 6 Luzon areas — OCTA

The Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila decreased over the previous week, maintaining the region's low-risk status for the infectious disease, the OCTA Research Group said on Monday, July 10.

OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said Metro Manila's Covid-19 positivity rate dropped from 4.8 percent on July 1 to 4.2 percent on July 8.

Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from those who were tested for Covid-19.

Metro Manila's positivity rate is also still below the World Health Organization's 5 percent threshold.

Meanwhile, David noted that the group observed “upticks” in the positivity rates of Camarines Sur (from 14.5 percent to 20.2 percent), Oriental Mindoro (from 5.3 percent to 17.6 percent), Palawan (from 13.3 percent to 15.3 percent), Quezon (from 5.8 percent to 8.3 percent), Rizal (from 4.7 percent to 8.5 percent), and Zambales (from 6 percent to 7.8 percent).

On July 9, the Department of Health reported 403 new Covid-19 cases across the country, of which 79 cases were recorded in Metro Manila.

David projected that the country may record 200 to 300 new Covid-19 cases on July 10.

He said the country’s current positivity rate is 6.3 percent, down slightly from 6.4 percent on July 8.
