Despite the changes in our educational system, the fact is, the university or educational institution where an applicant graduated from still plays an important factor in landing and securing a good job. 

The recent survey conducted by online job portal JobStreet by SEEK revealed the latest list of top educational institutions preferred by hirers in the Philippines when it comes to recruiting applicants. 

Here’s the top 10 universities and education institutions:

  1. Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) (23.39 percent)
  2. University of the Philippines (UP) (9.17 percent) 
  3. De La Salle University (DLSU) (6.88 percent)
  4. University of Santo Tomas (UST) (5.28 percent)
  5. Mapúa University (3.44 percent)
  6. Batangas State University (3.21 percent) 
  7. University of Mindanao (2.29 percent)
  8. University of Cebu (2.06 percent)
  9. Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) (2.06 percent)
  10. STI College (2.06 percent)  

According to the study, companies highly preferred PUP graduates because they are effective team players in the workplace, while UP and DLSU benefited from the reputation and alignment of their institutions to the industries of hirers.

Conducted last May 2023, the survey encompassed 42 industries and involved more than 700 companies of varying sizes from the platform’s hirer base. 

The survey also showed that hirers from Information Technology, Human Resources, and Call Center/BPO industries are the top recruiters that hire talent from PUP and UP. On the other hand, DLSU graduates are frequently sought after in the Healthcare, Information Technology, and Property/Real Estate sectors. Companies from Call Center/BPO, Business Consulting, and Hospitality, among others, recruit candidates from UST,  while hirers from Construction, Information Technology, and Telco are likely to hire graduates from Mapua Institute of Technology.
