Over 78,000 Davao folk receive TUPAD payouts the past 12 months

More than 78,000 Davao City residents have benefitted from the national government's Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Disadvantaged/Displaced Worker (TUPAD) program--as facilitated by the office of Congressman Paolo Duterte--during the past year. The past 12 months coincided with the first year of Duterte's second term as a member of the House of Representatives. He represents the city's first district in the lower chamber. A total of 78,451 local folk received payouts via TUPAD between July 2022 and June 2023, Duterte’s office bared on Saturday, July 1. The congressional office was the one that screened the thousands of beneficiaries. TUPAD is a cash-for-work program for displaced individuals with limited employment opportunities or those who only work seasonally. It provides immediate assistance to its beneficiaries for at least 10 days, and a maximum of 30 days, depending on the specific job requirements. A program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), TUPAD normally pays out minimum wage to the beneficiaries. The Davao residents that have benefitted from the program the past year includes vendors, tailors, school maintenance workers, barbers, hair stylists, cobblers, carpenters, and even senior citizens. As of June 2023, Duterte has also authored 169 national and local bills, many of which aim to safeguard the welfare of senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), seafarers, security guards, freelance workers, public school teachers, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), farmers and fisherfolk, media workers, calamity victims and other marginalized sectors. “We will sustain and  expand further our projects in Davao City so that we can assist more Dabawenyos in need. We will also continue to propose legislative measures that will help create more jobs, bring in more investments and reenergize the economy while protecting the welfare of society’s underprivileged sectors,” Duterte said. “My commitment has always been to help build a stable, comfortable and secure future for our countrymen," noted the former House deputy. Duterte is the son of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
