Feast of Our Lady of Piat on July 2




Devotees will celebrate on Sunday, July 2, the feast day of Our Lady of Piat, the venerated patroness of Cagayan Valley.

Feast masses in honor of the Mother of Cagayan will be celebrated at the Basilica Minore de Piat in Tuguegarao, Cagayan. The basilica is considered as one of the top ten Marian pilgrimage sites in the country receiving hundreds of visitors every year.

On July 1, Saturday, the Misa de Visperas will be held. Holy masses will be offered at 4:30 p.m., 8 p.m. (vigil mass), 9:30 p.m. and at 11 p.m. (Misa ng Salubong).

A procession will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the praying of the holy rosary at 7 p.m.

On July 2, Sunday, thirteen masses will be celebrated at the basilica with the first mass at 1 a.m. and the last mass at 7:15 p.m.

Novena masses were held from June 23 to July 1.

Meanwhile, Our Lady of Piat devotees in Metro Manila, following a 50-year-old tradition, will gather for a special commemorative mass at the Santo Domingo Church on Quezon Avenue, Quezon City on July 8, Saturday, for a holy mass at 9 a.m.

It will be officiated by Piat Shrine Rector Fr. Fredel Agatep with Fr. Stephen Simangan.

Devotion to the miraculous Our Lady of Piat began in 1604 when the Dominican missionaries brought the image from Macau to Cagayan Valley and has since spread across the country.
