ILIGAN CITY – Five members of a criminal group operating in the Zamboanga Peninsula surrendered to the Army 44th Infantry Battalion in Purok Bougainvilla, Barangay Loboc, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay on Thursday, June 29.
Task Force ZamPeLan commander Major Gen. Antonio Nafarrete identified the surrenderrers as Abral Ibrahim Abdusalam, alias “Brasil”; Hamid Attan Abdusalam, alias “Kadtong”; Marvin Kasim, Janhar Abdusalam Martin, alias “Johnny”; and Faisal Abualas Capunol.
These members of the Abdusalam Criminal Group were presented to Lt. Col. Anshary Pumbaya, 44th IB commanding officer, at the unit’s headquarters in Barangay Lower Baluran, Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay.
They turned over an Elisco 5.56mm M16A1 rifle, one Colt 5.56mm M16 rifle, one M1 Garand rifle, one 40mm grenade launcher, one Armscor caliber .45 pistol, two 30-bullet capacity magazines, and 40 5.56mm cartridge rounds.
Brig. Gen. Elmer Suderio, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said that their surrender is a result of the collaborative efforts of the 44th IB, Zamboanga Sibugay police, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-9, and intelligence units.
Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said that their surrender is a testament that the military has won not only the trust and support of the citizens but also that of the enemies of the State.
“Our effective employment of the whole-of-nation approach, together with our partners and stakeholders, continue to reap positive results in our bid to end terrorism and lawlessness in our area of operation," said Galido.
