Stray Kids set new record for highest first-week K-pop album sales with '5-Star'

K-pop boy band Stray Kids set a new record for the highest first-week album sales in K-pop history.  They achieved the feat through their third studio album “5-STAR,” which was released on June 2.  Stray Kids (Twitter)
Based on Korea’s Hanteo Chart data, “5-STAR” sold a total of 4,617,499 copies in the first week of release from June 2 to 8 to set a new record.  With this, Stray Kids overtook the No. 1 position from K-pop boy band Seventeen whose “FML” album set the highest first-week sales with 4,550,214 copies sold from April 24 to 30 this year.  In third place is BTS’ 2020 album “Map of the Soul: 7,” which recorded 3,378,633 copies in first-week sales.  “5-STAR” sold 2.38 million copies on the first day of release on June 2 to rank third behind Seventeen’s “FML,” which garnered 3.99 million copies and BTS’ “Map of the Soul: 7,” which had 2.65 million copies.  The first-week sales of “5-STAR” surpassed Stray Kids’ previous album “Maxident,” which sold 2,163,349 copies.  Before its release, “5-STAR” achieved 4.93 million copies in pre-orders, which set the record for the highest pre-orders in K-pop history.  Stray Kids, which debuted in 2017, achieved their first million in sales in 2021 with the album “NOEASY.”  Top 10 highest first-week album sales in K-pop history:  1\.
