Rains expected in parts of Luzon, Visayas due to enhanced 'habagat'
Residents of western Luzon and Visayas should brace for heavy monsoon rains over the next three days as typhoon Chedeng (international name “Guchol”) may intensify the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday night, June 9.
Chedeng is not expected to make landfall, but the enhanced habagat may bring heavy rains to Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan, Calamian and Cuyo Islands, and Antique from Friday night to Saturday night, June 10.
Heavy rains may persist in Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan, and Calamian and Cuyo Islands from Saturday night to Sunday night, June 11.
From Sunday night to Monday night, June 12, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Apayao, Abra, and Occidental Mindoro may receive heavy rains due to habagat.

PAGASA said the enhancement of the southwest monsoon may also cause gusty conditions over Metro Manila, Zambales, Bataan, Camiguin, Dinagat Islands, Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, and Visayas on Saturday; over Metro Manila, Abra, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Northern Samar, Ilocos Region, Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas on Sunday; and over Metro Manila, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Marinduque, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, northern Palawan, Calamian Island, Cuyo Island, Kalayaan Island, Antique, Aklan, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Calabarzon, and Bicol Region on Monday. PAGASA last spotted Chedeng at 885 kilometers east of Northern Luzon around 10 p.m. It has maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts up to 160 kph, and was moving north-northwestward at 10 kph. If Chedeng maintains its current speed and direction, it will be outside the country’s area of responsibility by Monday, June 12.
