Garth Garcia and Lea Salonga
Los Angeles-based Filipino artist, Garth Garcia, proudly announced that he is part of the upcoming Broadway musical "Here Lies Love” as a community investor. As a dedicated member of the Filipino community, Garcia has been producing concerts and shows in the US for many years. He has worked with OPM stars like Jed Madela, Lani Misalucha, Jake Zyrus, Nina, and Jaya, bringing their shows abroad. Garcia considers investing in “Here Lies Love” as one of the highlights of his career. The highly anticipated production is generating significant buzz given its all-Filipino cast. “I saw the potential kaya nag-invest ako. Ang ganda ng kuwento. The story is worth telling. Plus, it’s David Byrne! He’s a brilliant guy. And also, it would be an honor to be part of this historic musical with talented Filipino artists,” he said in a statement. Being a first time community investor for a Broadway project, Garcia enthused, “I am on the investing side, along with other community partners. Grabe ang cast. Amazing cast. Most of them are veterans and seasoned on stage. Plus, Lea Salonga is there. I am so excited.” Salonga has long been a musical icon in the Philippines, especially after being internationally recognized.
On working with Salonga, Garcia shared, “I just met her and the other cast members at a dinner hosted by our friend Lisa Lew in Los Angeles. But we will be flying to New York for the dress rehearsals and opening.” He went on to share his feedback on the video rehearsals he has seen, “Everyone is so talented. Mahusay talaga ang Pinoy artists. We are conquering the international stage and showcasing what we can, what we are made of, and who we truly are as artists.” Proud of his roots and hopeful about helping more Filipino artists, Garcia told the media, “It will be an immersive experience. The audience will be able to dance along to the music. The stage will be transformed into a dance club.” He also added that the Broadway venture will be a good platform to promote the Philippines and get more Filipinos into the mainstream entertainment scene.
Garcia is also currently part of the stage play in Hollywood titled #Dont, also featuring an all-Filipino cast and crew. The play stars Marco Torres, Cynthia San Luis, Julian Bataclan, Shekinah Austria, Rommel Rojas, Casey Estorque, Camille Aragon, Jefferson Carvey, Boy Rose, Rhandy Torres, Anne Marie Iniguez, Vincent Eclavea, Arianna Basco, and Mark Labella.
