LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved on Friday, June 9, resolution placing the entire province of Albay under a state of calamity due to restive Mayon Volcano.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved Resolution No. 0607-2023 authored by Board Member Dennise Misolania during a special session two days after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised alert level of Mayon Volcano from two (increasing unrest) to three (increased tendency towards hazardous eruption).
Gov. Grex Lagman on Thursday, June 8, said that a state of calamity would allow local government units to use the Quick Response Fund to help affected residents.
"It’s only P42 million as we speak, so P30 million po will be allocated but has to be secured via state of emergency being declared. Kailangan po natin ang tulong ng SP (We need the help of the SP) in fact tomorrow there will be a special session para po ma-declare na po ‘yung (so that the) state of calamity so we can access the quick response fund," Lagman said during the PDRRMC meeting on Thursday.
