Gina Sy, governor of Rotary Club District 3820, said that these equipment will used for bread and pastry making and coffee barista training to selected children in the orphanage.
"Ito po ay pagbibigay ng knowledge or training sa mga bata kasi po ang isang orphanage, pagdating ng 18-years-old, kailangan na nilang i-release ang mga bata. So, pag na-release po sila wala silang trabaho because they don't have skills. Now we are giving them these kind of skills, barista, baking, and cooking, para po paglabas nila puwede sila mag-apply ng trabaho," Sy said.
The Rotary Club also donated supplies needed for trainings.
"Nagbigay po tayo ng four-panel ng baking oven and then ni-renovate po natin ‘yung place na kung saan siya ilalagay at saka nag-provide tayo ng mga tables for the trainings, ‘yun pong mga cabinets para malagyan nila ng supplies and then all the supplies na gagamitin dun po sa kanilang pagti-training provided din po natin," Sy said.
The equipment was a global grant of the Rotary Foundation. The project was realized through the help of Rotary Club of Ogcheon and other Rotary Clubs in South Korea.
Dorothy Colle, president of Rotary Club of Legazpi, said that it took a year to realize the project.
"Ang Rotary Club of Legazpi ay may tinatawag na seven areas of focus. Itong seven areas of focus ay iba’t-ibang sektor ang nabibigyan ng opurtunidad na matulungan. ‘Yung ating ibinigay sa Holy Cross ay napapabilang siya dun sa economic and livelihood development," she said.
Sister Lilian Salumbre, administrator of Holy Cross Children's Home, said that children who will undergo training are those aged 15 to 24.
"Ngayon po, sampu ‘yung magti-training. Kasi ‘yung mga 15-years-old ay isinama na po namin kasi sila ay matured na din," she said.
The Holy Cross Children's Home has 33 wards and 12 personnel. Children belong to the extremely poor or abandoned by parents.
"Talagang very grateful po ako sa Rotary Club of Legazpi, kay Ma’am Gina and all the Rotarians dahil tinulungan talaga nila kami. Matagal na naming dream ito, especially ako na gusto ko mabigyan sila ng livelihood dahil sa labis na kahirapan," Salumbre said.
