The Philippine Madrigal Singers serenaded Malabon City residents in a thanksgiving concert at the San Bartolome Church on Wednesday, June 7, in celebration of the city’s 424th Founding Anniversary.

The “Himig ng Pag-Ahon” thanksgiving concert was led by the city government in partnership with the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) to celebrate the improvements that are being seen in Malabon.

The event was attended by Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, city councilors, CCP President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Maria Margarita Moran Floirendo, CCP Board Member Ben Carandang, and other guests.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers choir is composed of students, faculty members and alumni from the different colleges of the University of the Philippines (UP) which started in 1963. It had competed and won several awards in various international chorale competitions.

The group performed worship and love songs such as "Aba Ginoong Maria,” "Magdiwang, Magpuri," "Indian Songs medley", and "Sana'y Wala ng Wakas'.

The city government said the event aims to remind residents that they can look forward to a brighter and better future for the city as they bounce back from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During the event, Sandoval expressed gratitude to the people as she noted the improvements in Malabon, which are the results of new programs that were launched for the first time in the city.

“Sa bawat himig at pag-awit tanggapin natin ang biyayang hatid ng musika sa ating mga puso. Sa himig ng pag-ahon sama-sama nating ipagdiwang ang musika at kultura. Sa bawat pag-awit, sa bawat tugtog, at sa bawat ngiti ng ating mga magtatangahal, tayo ay magiging bahagi ng isang makapangyarihang alon ng pag-asa at inspirasyon (In every melody and performance, let's accept the grace that music brings to our hearts. To the tune of recovery, let's celebrate music and culture together. In every song, in every music, and in every smile of our performers, we will be part of a mighty wave of hope and inspiration),” Sandoval said.
