Navotas LGU gets 8th ‘unmodified opinion’ from COA

The Navotas City government announced on Thursday, June 8, that it received again an “unmodified opinion” from the Commission on Audit (COA) for the eighth straight year.

Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco received the COA report from Navotas Auditing Unit Officer-in-Charge (OIC) - Supervising Auditor Percival Arlos.

According to the COA, an audit opinion pertains to the financial audit conducted regularly by its auditors on agencies within its jurisdiction, which are issued depending on the local government unit’s/institution’s preparation of financial statements.

COA gives an "unmodified opinion" to a public institution that has presented its financial position, financial performance and cash flows in a fair manner and in accordance with the Philippine Public Sector Accounting Standards, the city government said.

The Navotas City government is the only local government in Metro Manila to have obtained the said rating since 2016.

“Our 8-year streak is a testament to our transparent and honest spending of city government funds. Mindful of our limited resources, we made sure that we used every cent of our people's money for projects and programs that would serve their best interests," Tiangco said.

“We thank and commend all department heads and employees who have worked hard for us to achieve this honor. May this recognition inspire us to continue to uphold the highest standards of public service,” he added.
