NAIA passenger traffic increases by 10%, BI says

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City has witnessed a notable surge in arriving and departing passengers, with the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reporting a significant 10 percent increase. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the daily departure count at NAIA Terminal 3 has reached nearly 17,000 passengers, while daily arrivals hover around 16,000 passengers. The morning operations have experienced the most substantial growth, with over 1,100 departing passengers and 1,500 arriving passengers. To accommodate this influx of travelers, Tansingco has given instructions to the head of the BI T3 terminal to ensure that all counters are fully staffed to provide efficient service. However, he acknowledged the need for additional space to install new counters and employ more personnel. Tansingco previously reported the deployment of approximately 150 new immigration officers to various international airports, with an additional 59 officers expected to be transferred from Terminal 2 operations. "We have requested the airport authorities to construct additional counters, and we are grateful for their commitment to completing this by the end of the year," Tansingco stated. Currently, BI Terminal 3 operations consist of 26 counters and five e-gates in the arrival area, along with 30 counters in the departure area. Tansingco revealed that airport management intends to establish a separate departure area dedicated to overseas Filipino workers, diplomats, and passengers requiring special assistance.
