*PH IS NEUTRAL - President Marcos reminds newly appointed Filipino ambassadors and chiefs of mission in a meeting in Malacañang on June 7, 2023, that the Philippines has an independent foreign policy and will not side with any country on any issue. (Bongbong Marcos/Twitter)*
Marcos said as he met newly appointed ambassadors and chiefs of mission in Malacañang on Wednesday, June 7. In his remarks, the President stressed that the Philippines will stay neutral on any issue. "We do not subscribe to any notion of a bipolar world. We only side, of course, to the Philippines, not to the US, not to Beijing, not to Moscow," he said. "That's very much being independent in what we do," he added. In a tweet following the meeting, Marcos said it was crucial to establish deep ties with other countries so the Philippines would not get left behind in the evolving global landscape. "Mahalaga ang pagtutulungan at malalim na ugnayan ng mga bansa sa isang nagbabagong global landscape upang masiguro ang kapayapaan at seguridad ng mga mamamayan (Countries working together and having deep ties are important in a changing global landscape to ensure the peace and security of everyone)," he wrote.
