Justice for EXO-CBX: International fans support Chen, Baekhyun, Xiumin

International fans have thrown their support behind K-pop boy band EXO’s Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin, who are seeking to terminate their exclusive contracts with their agency, SM Entertainment.

The three, who are also members of the subunit EXO-CBX, filed a complaint against SM Entertainment with the the Fair Trade Commission (FTC), seeking investigation about the terms of their contracts.

They accused SM Entertainment of  implementing “slave” contracts and abusing its dominant position.

EXO-CBX (SM Entertainment)

Amid the legal battle between the K-pop stars and SM Entertainment, international fanbases have issued a statement supporting EXO-CBX’s fight against the agency.

Here is the full statement of the fanbases:

JUSTICE FOR CBX

This statement represents the feelings of EXO's international fanbases - not just for the group but also for fanbases of Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin. We have come together to express the same goal; that is, to support and protect the members of EXO.

We especially extend this support to EXO-CBX, who are representing the rights of not only their contracts but the contracts of all SM Entertainment artists.

Since June 1st, Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin have filed to terminate their exclusive contract with SM on the basis of several injustices including but not limited to:

Inability to provide a copy of the settlement data

Exploitative slave contract conditions

Coercion under duress.

We urge SM Entertainment to provide the settlement data requested by the artists, who have the legitimate right to demand such documents. We urge SM to cease foul play via misleading statements in the media, which has resulted in unfair and divisive attacks on the members.

Lastly, we urge SM Entertainment and its employees to exercise the corporate social and ethical responsibility necessary as an entertainment company on the global stage.

The members of CBX have stated that they are seeking ways to faithfully continue their activities together with other EXO members, even if their exclusive contract with SM is terminated.

We strongly believe this to be true. Should CBX be unable to participate in group activities, we will assign all fault to SM Entertainment.

We ask that all EXO-Ls and fans alike can stand united for EXO-CBX, no matter what happens. Let us support them in getting the justice they deserve and let their voices and truth be heard.

Once again, this  not just for the members but for all artists under SM Entertainment -or those who are afraid, those who are scared, and those who are plucking up the courage to tackle the injustices they face.

We will work together as a team and a family to continually fight in seeking JUSTICE FOR CBX. We have shared countless moments with EXO and EXO-CBX, and as much as we've leaned on them for support, we feel it is now our turn to be a support for the members.
