CV’s Regional Dev’t Council mulling construction of bridges connecting key provinces in region
CEBU CITY – Construction of bridges that will connect key provinces in the Visayas was discussed in the recent reorganizational meeting of the National Economic and Development Authority Board-Regional Development Committee Visayas Area Committee (NB-RDCom VAC).

Aris Aumentado, chairman of the Regional Development Council-Central Visayas (RDC-7), said the meeting was held in Quezon City on Wednesday, June 7. Aumentado said various topics were tackled during the meeting such as connectivity (roads and bridges), agriculture, disaster resilience, trade and tourism. “One of the things we talked about before the formal meeting was connecting the provinces that can boost the economy not just in Central Visayas but in the whole Visayas region,” Aumentado said. Aumentado said connecting key provinces in the Visayas will include an ambitious project of constructing bridges that would link Cebu-Bohol, Bohol- Leyte and Cebu-Negros. “This would be really great if this will materialize. For me, this is an ambitious project but if this will help realize our goal to help all Visayas provinces to become progressive, then we will dream for this and who knows this will come into fruition,” said Aumentado. Present during the meeting were Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez, chair of RDC-8, Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, chairperson of RDC-6, Usec. Carlos Bernardo Abad Santos of NEDA-Regional Development Group, Usec. Mark Roa Gimenez of Presidential Management Staff- Visayas and Usec. Terence Calatrava of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas. Benitez was elected as chairman of NB-RDCom VAC, while Torres and Aumentado were chosen as co-chairmen.
