'Bilib ako': Teves says he supports VP Duterte, Arroyo

Controversial Negros Oriental 3rd district Rep. Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr. expressed on Thursday, June 8 his admiration for Vice President Sara Duterte and Deputy Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The suspended congressman spoke about the two high-ranking lady officials during a news forum in Quezon City wherein he also assured his support for the latter. Teves, who has been abroad since Feb.28 and has refused to come back home, attended the forum via Zoom. "I feel what ma'am Inday Sara feels na dapat, kung sino man dyan may ambisyon, wag kayong 'tambaloslos'...tama ka sa sinasabi mo (I feel what ma'am Inday Sara feels in that, as far as people with ambition are concerned, they shouldn't be 'tambaloslos'...you're correct in saying that)," Teves said in mixed English, Filipino, and Bisaya. He was alluding to a controversial social media post from Duterte amid the recent movement within the House leadership. "In whatever endeavors you do Ma'am Sara, I will support. Bilib ako sa guts mo at sa pagtayo mo sa ano yung tama (I admire your guts and your willingness to stand for what is right)," he said. Firebrand Teves also had something to say about former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, whose name was plastered on headlines following her "demotion" from senior deputy speaker to one of eight deputy speakers in the House of Representatives. "Gusto kong ilabas ang aking sama ng loob sa ginawa kay Ma'am GMA...Hindi tama para sa akin, nabastusan ako doon sa ginawa niyo kay Ma'am GMA (I want to air my displeasure over what they did to Ma'am GMA...For me it wasn't right, what you did was a disrespect toward Ma'am GMA). "It was not good. It was disrespectful to Ma'am GMA...And I don't know if you felt bad about it but me personally, I felt bad with what they did to you," he said. Arroyo, Pampanga's 2nd district representative, was replaced as senior deputy speaker by Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzalez Jr. last May 17. "Ma'am, andito ako sa likod mo for whatever support, basta ako ma'am, you know I am with you (Ma'am, I'm behind you for whatever support, as far as I'm concerned, you know I am with you)," Teves said of Arroyo. He went on to describe how highly he thinks of the ex-chief executive. "Grabe ang paghanga ko, at ang taas ng tingin ko kay Ma'am GMA bilang tao, bilang nakaraang presidente, bilang naging katrabaho ko sa Kongreso at bilang isang kaibigan (My admiration is so high for Ma'am GMA as a person, as a former president, as a colleague in Congress, and as a friend)." Teves, the alleged mastermind in the March 4 assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, has refused to return to the country for fear of his life.
