NETIZEN Mark Masbate Manlangit posts a photo in his  Facebook account of ashfall from Mayon Volcano in Camalig, Albay on Thursday, June 8.

Dr. Paul Alanis, resident volcanologist at the Phivolcs Lignon Hill Observatory here, told the Manila Bulletin that he has received reports of traces of ash in Daraga town and Legazpi City.

He said that this was caused by continuing rockfall events at the crater of Mayon Volcano.

"Ito po ay dala ng patuloy na rockfall events. 'Yung mga bato ay nababasag, napipino, at hanggang sa ito liparin ng hangin sa mga lugar na yan," Alanis said.

Alanis reminded  residents that they  should not be alarmed by these ash traces as it were not brought by a phreatic eruption or an eruption.

In the 8 a.m. advisory of Phivolcs Thursday, the Mayon Volcano network recorded 98 rockfall events based on  seismic and visual observations.

The rockfall events that happened around 8 a.m.  lasted for almost two to three minutes and emplaced lava debris on the southern gullies within a kilometer from the summit crater.

Thin brownish ash from the rockfalls also drifted to the general south, the advisory said.
