PH Red Cross provides assistance to disaster-prone, fire-affected families in Metro Manila
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide food assistance to support disaster-prone communities and fire-affected families in Metro Manila.
PRC has distributed 20,496 loaves of bread to disaster-prone communities and families impacted by fires from January to May 2023, it said in a statement on Wednesday, June 7.
In partnership with Gardenia Bakeries Philippines, Inc., loaves of bread, along with other food items, are distributed by the PRC to communities in need, ensuring that they reach those who need them most.
PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard Gordon expressed gratitude for the partnership.
“Through our collaboration with Gardenia Bakeries, we are able to extend much-needed assistance to disaster-stricken communities,” he said.
“The provision of bread not only addresses immediate hunger but also brings hope and comfort to those affected," he added.
PRC Secretary-General Dr. Gwen T. Pang emphasized the value of community support by saying that the distribution of these food items demonstrates our commitment to serving the most vulnerable in society.
“We are thankful for the partnership with Gardenia, as it enables us to reach more individuals in need and provide them with essential sustenance," Pang said.
Likewise, the Food Donation Act of 2009, which Gordon pushed for in the Senate, states that hotel chains, restaurants, and other businesses in the food industry should donate extra food to the PRC so that it may be given to people in need. (Rhowen Del Rosario)
