The Office of the Vice President (OVP) will lead the planting of one million trees through its “Project PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees” that aims to attain environmental sustainability.

In a statement, the OVP said it had inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to support the government’s National Greening Program. Vice President Sara Duterte, who is also the country’s education chief, and the “Project PagbaBAGo: A Million Learners and Trees” will also provide one million bags containing school supplies and dental kits to student-beneficiaries. The project will also reach to plant one million trees for environmental sustainability and promote family planning, among parents. Duterte signed the MOU on behalf of the OVP in a brief ceremony at the OVP Central Office in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday, June 7. Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga and Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo were the signatories for DENR and DepEd, respectively. The DENR, as the lead government agency for the National Greening Program, is responsible for environmental conservation, management, and development. Some of the goals of the National Greening Program is to achieve sustainable development and address the impact of climate change. On the other hand, DepEd is mandated to coordinate and implement educational policies and programs. “As significant partners of the OVP, the participation of schools and the DENR in greening initiatives will significantly impact environmental stewardship,” the OVP said.
