Magnitude 4.4 quake jolts Camarines Sur — Phivolcs


A 4.4-magnitude earthquake jolted Camarines Sur on Wednesday night, June 7, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the quake, which happened around 6:16 p.m. struck 1 kilometer (km) southeast of Ragay, Camarines Sur.

It recorded the quake at Intensity V (strong) in Ragay and Cabusao in Camarines Sur; Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Del Gallego, Pamplona, Sipocot, and Lupi in Camarines Sur; Intensity III (weak) in San Lorenzo in Camarines Norte, Pasacao in Camarines Sur, and Guinayangan and Calauag in Quezon; and Intensity II (slightly felt) in Basud and San Vicente in Camarines Norte, Gainza and Milaor in Camarines Sur, and Lopez in Quezon.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

It added that the earthquake may have caused damage to houses, buildings, and other infrastructure, and warned the public to be cautious as aftershocks may occur.
