Cardel holds breath as Terrafirma awaits test results on Ferrer's Achilles injury
Terrafirma head coach Johnedel Cardel is keeping his fingers crossed as veteran forward Kevin Ferrer went down with what appeared to be an Achilles injury during their game against TNT on Wednesday, June 7.
Ferrer went down with the injury with only 14 seconds remaining in the first half and had to be stretchered off the floor before he was sent to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center. Cardel could only hope for the best for Ferrer although he shared that the veteran cager heard something snap on his Achilles when he tried to go for the rebound. “Sana hindi naman serious ‘no? Pero may pumitik daw sa Achilles niya kaya medyo delikado. Sayang ang ganda pa naman ng laro niya kanina,” lamented Cardel after the injury put a dampener to his team’s breakthrough 104-92 win over TNT. It was also a tough luck for Ferrer who, according to Cardel, was also coming off a sprain injury which forced him to sit out the team’s last game. “Galing from injury siya nung sprain nung last game, nung practice namin kaya hindi siya naglaro nung Blackwater. Malaking bagay na nawala siya,” he added. The Dyip though made sure to deliver the victory for their fallen comrade as, after trailing for as many as 13 points in the first half, surged ahead and never looked back after a blistering 37-7 run bridging the third and final frames. Juami Tiongson led the way with 21 points while guys like Isaac Go, Allen Mina, Ed Daquioag all provided solid contributions in Ferrer’s absence.
