Alter, Torres star for UP; San Sebastian frustrates EAC

The Fighting Maroons overcame all odds after a measly shooting for both teams in the first half, with Alter and Torres finally giving the breather with key baskets in crunchtime to power their shorthanded squad which only had a nine-man roster for the game due to injuries. Torres scored 16 points off the bench, Alter added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Gerry Abadiano chipped in nine. Megan Galang rallied the hard-fighting St. Clare, scoring 14 points aided by Luiz Tapenio who listed 10 in a losing effort. UP improved to a 6-2 win-loss record, while SCC fell to 4-4 in the standings. Meanwhile, San Sebastian frustrated Emilio Aguinaldo College with a 68-66 victory in the second game. The Generals were leading at the end of the third quarter, 56-50, but the Golden Stags fought back with key stops in the waning seconds to earn their third victory against five losses. Reggz Gabat tallied 17 points while Romel Calahat Jr. notched a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds for San Sebastian. JP Maguilano and Ralph Robin each registered 15 points for EAC which dropped to a 2-6 record. Jose Rizal University downed Mapua, 93-84, behind Jerry Guiab's 21 points and nine rebounds. The Heavy Bombers improved to 3-4 while the Cardinals slid to 5-4.
