Rizal LGU lauds weightlifting athletes for winning int'l sports competitions

The Provincial Government of Rizal recognized two Rizaleno athletes for their exemplary performances and achievements in international weightlifting competitions. Inan, 18, won a silver medal in the 49 kilogram women's weightlifting category in the 2023 Southeast Asia Games held in Cambodia. Delos Santos, 15, brought home two gold and one silver medals for the weightlifting category during the International Weightlifting Federation - World Youth Championship in Albania. Ynares said the two athletes used to be street traders in an area in Angono, Rizal, where they exchanged items they found in the streets for money. Inan, who often passed and stopped by to witness the activities held in the gym of famous weightlifting Coach Richard Pep Agosto, was urged to try the sport by Agosto himself. She was featured on the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)'s "SEA Games Inspirations" post on the organization's social media page. The governor emphasized their skills and dedication to the sport. She expressed her wish for more young people to become inspired to bring honor to their family, province, and society by participating and representing the Philippines in championships worldwide. She also recognized and thanked the efforts of their coach, Richard Pep Agosto, for training and guiding the athletes throughout their sports careers. Last May 22, the local government of Angono conducted their own brief recognition ceremony to honor Inan and Delos Santos. In attendance were Angono Mayor Jeri Calderon, Arvin Tolentino, representing Chairman Alberto Tolentino, Coach Agosto, Angono Sports Commissioner Josef Mari Malinay, and Renan Sanvictores.
