OCD-Bicol under blue alert status after Mayon alert level raised to 2

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Bicol is under blue alert status after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised the alert level of Mayon Volcano in Albay from one to two (increasing unrest) on Monday, June 5.

OCD-Bicol Assistant Regional Director Jsar Adornado said all units are on standby in preparation for possible eruption under blue alert.

Adornado said that close coordination with the provincial  government of Albay and Phivolcs is being done.

"Hihingi kami ng contingency plan ng lalawigan ng Albay kung saan ilalagay ang evacuation centers (We will ask a contingency plan for evacuation centers from Albay)," Adornado said.

Meanwhile, the Legazpi City Disaster and Climate Change Resilience Council (DCCRC) issued advisory on Monday afternoon that all barangay DRRMs along the slopes of Mayon Volcano should conduct pre-disaster risk assessment and submit any updated data on population at risk to the City DRRMO and review contingency plan for Mayon Volcano eruption and keep updated with the early warning system and monitoring thru the Phivolcs bulletin.

ATV rides, hiking, mountain climbing, and quarrying in Mayon are strictly not allowed due to the increased possibility of sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and hazards caused by rockfall events.
