Liza Lorena tells aspiring beauty queens: 'You shouldn't join when you're so young'

Becoming one of the most well-known actresses in her generation, Liza Lorena started from being a flight attendant to becoming a Binibining Pilipinas candidate in 1966. Although it was close to getting the Binibini crown, the veteran actress was placed as first runner-up after organizers found out that she was underage. During an interview on Aster Amoyo’s “TicTalk” on YouTube on June 2, Liza shared her experience of joining the prestigious pageant at the age of 16. ''At first hindi ko talaga pinangrap mag beauty queen. I had a hard time kasi magheheels, hindi pa ako nagheheels kasi puro boy shoes ang suot when I was studying in high school,'' she said. (At first I never really dreamed of being a beauty queen. I had a hard time wearing heels, I have never worn heels because I was wearing only boy shoes when I was studying in high school) But before heading as an official candidate, she started working as a flight attendant at the age of 15. The veteran actress didn't deny that she had her age changed during her time at the Binibining Pilipinas. ''Actually pasado na ako sa Binibing Pilipinas, plus yung edad ko nga, na medyo dinaya,'' she said. (Actually, I passed Binibining Pilipinas, plus my age, which was a bit cheated) According to Liza, it was a scary moment for her because she didn't expect the audience during that time to be all at the Araneta Coliseum watching the grand coronation. ''That was so scary kasi punong-puno ng tao ang Araneta nun, so sabi ko nga ang advice ko sa mga aspiring beauty queens, You shouldn't join when you're so young,'' she said. (That was so scary because Araneta was full of people, so as I said,  my advice to aspiring beauty queens, You shouldn't join when you're so young) Although she was also convinced to join again, Liza shared in the interview that she choose to continue her acting career.
